Foundation
Cav. Brunetti founded the Cantina Isola di Capri winery. The winemaking activities were housed in the center of Anacapri in an ancient building, erected at the beginning of the 18th century at the behest of the Venerable Mother Serafina of God, which was a monastery of the Calced Teresian Virgins.
Cross vaults and large windows framed a very large space, over 400 square meters, for the small size of island architecture. The scent of harvested grapes filled the center of town in September and October. From there began a winemaking tradition that anyone who has visited the island has encountered.
1909
Roots
The wines began to be named with the "Tiberius" brand, in honor of the birth of Cav. Brunetti's third son, who was given precisely the name of the Roman emperor who chose Capri as his home. Since that time the brand has remained inextricably linked to the island's wines.
The Brunetti family is not the first to produce wines on Capri, but it is the first to give it a business dimension that crosses national and international boundaries.
The first export to the U.S. dates back to the late 1920s. In order to make such a shipment of wines and spirits to North America it was, and is, mandatory to register the export trademark. Vinicola Tiberio was assigned trademark No. 17. This means that in all of Italy Tiberio was the 17th company, in chronological order, to export products to North America.
In the decades that followed, new labels came on the market, and as they did, the Tiberio became central to Capri's oenological history. Going to a restaurant on Capri and asking for "a Tiberio" was a must for the island's regulars.
1925
Quality
A decree was promulgated in the Official Gazette, signed by then-President Leone, elevating Capri wine to the rank of D.O.C. (controlled designation of origin). This sanctioned the excellent quality of the same. At the same time, "Capri D.O.C. Bianco" and "Capri D.O.C. Rosso" are produced and placed on the market. The former is made with falanghina, greco and biancolella grapes, the latter with piedirosso (perepalummo) in purity.
1977
Tradition
Capri Blu, a DOC white wine, is born. Produced until 2011, for more than 20 years it was the company's flagship product, the one to this day most remembered and appreciated. And the first export of Tiberio wines to Japan also dates back to those years. While strengthening its presence in the North American and European markets, especially in Germany.
1990
Innovation
The winery's wines are produced by winemaker Roberto Mazzer - a Lazio native of Veneto, who still continues to oversee production - who decided to focus on raising the quality of production. His is the signature on the successful Antico Convento San Michele Capri doc white and red wines. Limited-run wines obtained through aging in French oak barrels.
2002
Legacy
Capri blu dop is back. Blend of falanghina and greco that, compared to the previous production, sees passage in barriques and a long aging in the bottle.
Today, after more than a century, the winery's heart beats in the same location as then, on Capri, wine is intertwined with the myth of the island. With history and beauty. Hemingway and Malaparte, appreciated it and wrote about it in their works. We, after more than 110 years, continue to carry on an important tradition, known and recognized all over the world. In the knowledge that each harvest can bring us a great vintage.
